"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance—that principle is contempt prior to investigation." – Herbert Spencer, An Artist’s Concept
I have never heard of this expression prior to right now. I have heard "keep an open mind" but never the principle of contempt prior to investigation. NASCAR IS for hill-billy's, you just discovered your inner hill-billy! lol!
Well said. I will bet we read the Spencer quote in the same place. It stuck with me like glue, and has often been the deciding factor in trying new things. The profound effect is how those new things almost always lead to other things, often with extraordinary consequences.
Nearly all people fall into one of two categories, opinionated or curious, and to which camp they belong can vary according to the subject matter or circumstances. The curious have opinions, but are willing to challenge them and even change them if the evidence convinces them. On the other hand, the opinionated are fixed on what they believe and are unwilling to even listen to a different perspective, much less to ideas or evidence that is directly contradictory to their opinions.
I strive to always remain in the curious camp, but it's not always easy.
You know who else does yoga? MotoGP racers. My husband went to Yamaha Champions Riding School and at the end of the day they did yoga to help their bodies recover. Pilates was developed by a former acrobat who ran a boxing gym. Somehow it got popular with NYC ballerinas nearby to prevent and heal injuries and became associated with women.
There are many different kinds of yoga, I am not a fan of hot yoga as for many people it makes it easier to overstretch and generate injuries, but it depends on your body type. Watch out for Ashtanga, those people are intense.
I just went to resorative yoga today and all my aches and pains from a very intense Pilates workout yesterday went away.
My husband recently tried beginner line dancing and stuck with it long enough to start to really enjoy it.
I tried rock climbing with a fear of heights and wound up not only liking it, but meeting my husband on a climbing trip. It is a big world out there.
I can only listen to your music for a little while, but I have sent it on to other people who have loved it, husband included.

I never thought I would enjoyed watching motorcycle racing, I have been hooked since 2015 and it is incredible live

Great thoughts. It's really as simple as get out of your comfort zone and stop living entirely in your own little bubble.
I’m 5’11” and the best and worst husband in the world just ask my wife. Cheers to swallowing hairy buttholes!
