Wow, I found the opposite with the kids of liberal parents at least in LA. It is probably more even and depends on other things besides political pusuasion. Most Utah kids were well behaved compared to West LA. The best behaved are the little Hispanic kids because their parents will still beat them if they get out of line.
I remember my daughter trying her first supermarket fit and the checker wanted to give her candy. I said no as I wanted it to be her last fit, and it was. I was just getting out as fast as I could and I needed food. They acted like I was a horrible mother. There is zero support for even gentle discipline of kids.
My husband always said, "Good intentions and small children should be carried out quickly" My kids were very well behaved, but I was thought to be a horrible person by other people for expecting good behavior. My sister and I were well behaved and my mother took us everywhere. We knew we would never come along again if we didn´t behave.
Never use my seat back on a plane as your handle to lift yourself out of your seat unless, of course, you are aged and/or disabled. Otherwise, do a sit up once in a while and let me sit in peace!
Most of my pet peeves happen at the airport where apparently people forget there are rules but off the top: unless it’s an emergency or disability issue, don’t ask me to switch seats, when you’re waiting on the tsa line have your shit together and don’t act surprised when you get to the front and you have to procure a Gov ID and/or boarding pass subsequently holding up the line while your dit it out, and goddamn wait for the people in front of you to deplane and don’t nudge your way forward like an asshole.
It's indeed based on a time when women wore skirts. It was gentlemanly to walk ahead of them up the stairs to avoid getting a glimpse (or whatever) and obviously to let them go first on the way down.
Are you sure? Because AVP said to let her walk up before you, so actually the opposite of what you posit. Now I really need to know what’s going on here lol…
Enjoy all of your writing but this one really had me laughing and nodding my head in agreement. I am a flight attendant for American and have been in disbelief at the number of people that are clueless about how sound from electronics is audible to the people around them. Either they are oblivious and think sound only goes directly to their ears or they just don’t care about the people around them. I’m guessing it’s a combination. It seems to be happening everywhere. On the employee bus I just start playing music really loud from my phone when some idiot is watching Tik Tok videos without headphones. I have a kid and couldn’t agree more about how rude it is to make other people listen to a tantrum at a nice restaurant. Take them outside.
I thought libertarians had the major I will do what I want streak?. And you can tell a conservative because he is misbehaving in Public orr do they wear a badge?. And libetarians must be more tolerant right?
That was my exact question! I try not to assume anyone's political affiliation unless they make it very obvious (hats, political pins, yard signs). In LA where I live and is 75% liberal...all those same bad behaviors exist.
I am usually assumed by people who don´t know me to be very liberal due to the way I dress and some of my very cruncy habits. I am not at all. Nothing like furry armpits for the assumptions to start LOL. I just hate shaving and lived in places where it was the norm. Even yard signs can be deceptive. A friend of mine had a BLM sign in her yard when I met her. She lived in an area where that was common and worked so much that she really had no idea who they were and what they represented. About a year after meeting her it disappeared. How about we take the time to get to know people before we decide we know who they are?
Or live somewhere that isn't a family vacation hotspot. I agree with him in theory and I'm going to try to get this right with my daughter. And I still cringe when I see other parents being oblivious. But vacation 100% survival mode.
etiquette, when walking and the person in front of you is unsure wether to go right or left put out your hand (near your waist) and point with your hand (not finger) on which way you are going, in this way i never bump into people and always go my way, as they see that i am basically showing them i choose this way, works great in the metro (subway)

There's always someone who has to bring politics into a discussion.
Why is that?
He mentioned politics as it relates to this specific issue in the article.

THANK YOU!! More than 50% of flights I’m on now it’s a free for all getting off the plane and it makes no sense
Let a lady walk up stairs before you, but precede her on the way down.
Especially if she is wearing a skirt on the way up.
Jokes aside, is this based on some “I can catch her if she falls” logic? Never heard this one.

By going up the stairs after a lady, you block other unsavory fellows views.
Anyone who walks down the street while video FaceTiming and shouting into their phones
"Your rights end where my rights begin."
Same goes for face time and speaker phone in public. Those people are the worst.

Hire a private chef and go into hiding it will solve all your problems

Look at people when you are talking to them and shut up when they talk to you.
Your post reminded me of this clip from Curb.

AVP, you got that one 180 degrees wrong, unless you want a naughty peek.

Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh. +1 on all points made.
My pet peeve are people who chew with their mouth open in restaurants.
