I got off Facebook, it was a pointless time suck. Before I left, I posted a message that I was leaving and if anyone wanted to keep in touch, they needed to message me. 0 did and everyone who wanted to stay in touch still does and already had my contact information. My dog follows your cats on Instagram.. I log into Twitter every few weeks for a few minutes. I love Substack for information as there are some great journalists and essayists there. My relationships are face to face and I keep in touch directly with my long distance friends.

I really enjoyed this one for many reasons. I’m Gen X and I prefer FB. My wife loves Insta. I “use” Twitter as well but it is a hell scape of negativity a lot of the time. My kids are on Snap and TikTok constantly.

I struggle w/ all of the socials - they offer some good and some bad, all driven by the people producing and interacting w/ content. Weird times!! Appreciate your writing, thanks!!

Pretty good assessment of social media. Yes Twitter/X will piss you off, perhaps by design as most of these sites are echo chambers. But at the end of the day I'd rather be pissed off and somewhat enlightened by X with some semblance of truth (i.e. Covid really did come from a lab in Wuhan) than all the others who try to control your speech.

I've been thinking the same lately after trying to cut off all social media. But I think everyone has to decide which sites are for them and which ones aren't.
