I thought you were spot on regarding politicians being the way they are because we the voters would not let them survive in politics for long if they consistently held to a particular set of principles without recognition of a changing landscape, or if they told us the unvarnished truth, which most people would probably consider a "microaggression". Our actions regarding that tell us again and again that we can't handle the truth.
Loved the painful metaphors when speaking of the market ups and down!
With all that said, I think we can and should build out lives around solid principles that have stood the test of time; we just should not be stupid about it.
I'm reminded of the line from Groucho Marx: Them's my principles, and if you don't like 'em, I've got others.
I would suggest that we all have principles that we live by. You stated that you are a pragmatist. That is a principle. When I think of principles, I consider whether a person is trustworthy or reliable, for example. When we speak of politicians as unprincipled, I think of someone who places his or her political advantage or career ahead of any other relationship or action. They will betray or stab in the back anyone if it seems it will get them closer to what they want. But those are principles, just not admirable ones, at least in my view.
I certainly have principles that I try to live by, but I rarely talk about them, and never flaunt them. Rather, I hope that those who know me are able to discern those principles by how I live.
Surprise you don’t vote. You don’t have to publicize it, but I’m sure you have policy or other preferences more aligned with one candidate or the other.
"I don't care about the starving children in Africa"......Jared, when you are older and wiser you will see the folly of that statement.

You’re too principled to write “big tits.”
Your comment made me smirk, but I believe he was being a good writer/communicator rather than being principled.
He’s a great writer. I did think that using décolletage twice though did not outweigh the use of big tits once.
My comment(s) are strictly in jest.
Haha nice, point well made.
I agree with the pragmatism.
Didn't Ayn Rand write about "Selfishness" as a philosophy?
Honest and funny, thank you

I believe we call this growing up and maturing.
I feel that way about trading now. lol
Great writing as ever, thank you.
Good one!
