I see the bits of conservative propaganda in your notes because they stick out like little thorns of unwisdom…a jarring effect. It won’t stop me from reading your stuff, which I love, but I’m not going to forget what I’ve learned about the hedonic treadmill or the societal impacts of Gini coefficients. I’m grateful your writing presents the right wing stuff in a less obnoxious way that doesn’t destroy the entertainment value of the pieces. But leaving that stuff out would result in fewer furrowed brows (my own). I guess the pointlessness of changing political views works in both directions.

“You know what’s better than perfect? Done.” This is gold.

Long ago, as a junior engineer I learned the phrase, “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” There are few fields where perfection is even a desirable goal. It can become a distraction from getting anything done. It’s so much better to do plenty of very good work.

And then there is Patrick Rothfuss.

As someone who writes every day, this is exactly correct, especially the part about not knowing where you will end up when you start. It frequently surprises me how things finish.

I'm sure you're doing it on purpose and it's fine, but man, you project a fair amount of disdain and disrespect for people with children with your words. It's fine and in a way it contributes to your persona.

You're an interesting dude who puts his ideas out there and they are fun to read. Just try to get out a little more. I have lots of friends who are dads and have great ideas and ways of seeing things. They paint, they journal, they discuss amongst their friends.

They don't need to create for a living because they made excellent livings doing other things, but what's great is they have children, who are the ultimate challenge and the ultimate joy. You have cats, and as you always say, "that's OK."

Keep writing. It's fun to read!

I have given over to my creative side (videos of antique machinery). I know exactly what you mean about the early productions would benefit from overhaul. But no....

The problem I have is finding an audience for my product. So far, it is an audience of one. And that is OK because I can afford it. But I really need to get off my lazy donkey and get some help.

Maybe tomorrow......

Reminds me somewhat of Rick Rubin’s book.
