The general feeling is that people with money are high class and people with no money are low class. This is broadly true, but there are exceptions. I met some rich primates on Wall Street, and I have some family members of very modest means who are the classiest people I know.
I read literally everything you email me because I love your writing style and because I disagree with half of everything you write. If I disagreed with all of it, I would likely dismiss it, but because it’s only half, I’m forced to grapple with your ideas and test my own implicit biases. Sometimes that leaves me a more thoughtful, well-reasoned person with a better understanding of why I think what I think, and for that push toward self-reflection, I am truly grateful. Thank you, Jared…sincerely.
"Where there is deep house thumping softly on the pool speakers.." - hell yes, that's exactly the right kind of place to vacation. And I just downloaded Peasants - thanks!
I'm reminded of the now quaint "finishing schools" for women and traditional private prep schools for men which at least tried to instill some level of class in young people. Being classy is something that needs to be taught.
Have ordered The Greatest Short Stories of Anton Chekhov (which includes 'Peasants') - thanks Jared! Now you know that some of us have read at least 8 of your 9 paragraphs in "Class"...
I'm gonna read Chekov coz I've been looking for something to read for about two weeks now. It's sad about the whole poor kids can't work on wallstreet anymore. Do you think that affects the quality of work or productivity etc ?
Really well done. Big fan!

Thanks Jared, another great one. Your closing paragraph reminds me of a useful adage: “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
