This idea that progress only goes one way is easily refuted with one simple fact: humanity isn't manufacturing babies. Birthrates everywhere are plummeting and the fallout will be catastrophic for humanity globally. I'm not sure you could call that "progress?" In fact it is suicide.

Off all things my 95 year old mother defends the catcalling of her youth. She says it was innocent flirting and has fond memories of soldiers returning from WW2 whistling at young teens and 20 somethings in the street. Harmless, she states.

At some point, does physical violence(sticks & stones) become needed to protect this forward march to civilization? If catcalls were made against law, would the police need to use physical force to arrest a law breaker? Do armies get used to defend the democracy that this civilization grows in?
