We’re Gonna Get Those Bastards started out as a school project, but has grown into something much more than that. And I must confess—writing these essays is the most fun thing that I do. No matter what is going in the market or what bullshit I am putting up with, my favorite thing to do is to sit down with the laptop and write about life and nothing in particular.
The bad news is that this endeavor will soon be coming to an end. The good news is that it will live on for decades in the form of a book: THOSE BASTARDS: 69 Essays. I am planning for it to come out in the spring.
You might ask, why should I buy the book if I already read all this crap online? Well, for starters, you won’t have read all of it. I’m putting 59 essays on Substack and I’m saving the final 10 for the book. And the stuff that is going in the book is the stuff that was too hot for Substack. And some deeply personal stuff, too. All of that will come out in the print edition, I’m guessing around April of next year.
And even if you have already read most of it, it’s just nice to have a book on your shelf, and to give copies to other people as gifts. I hope I can count on you guys for at least 10 books each.
And of course, you can’t have a book without a book launch party, and there is going to be one of those, too. You should get your ass to it.
All very exciting stuff. It’s been my privilege to share a part of my life with you. I hope I can count on you to “add to cart” when the time comes.
Sincerely,
Jared Dillian
Having gotten to know you better through Bastards, I'm sure the 69 number is purely coincidental.😉
